During his 40 years of practice as a litigator and legal advisor, Jim has focused on energy and construction-related matters along with varied real estate and commercial litigation matters. His construction work involves both litigation and negotiating agreements for many types of buildings and infrastructure projects. Jim’s energy work includes electrical generating facilities, alternative energy technologies (wind, solar, geothermal, and waste), and oil and gas matters. He has extensive experience trying cases in U.S. courts and in domestic and international arbitrations, ad hoc and under the auspices of the American Arbitration Association/International Centre for Dispute Resolution, International Chamber of Commerce, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
Jim’s commercial experience includes representing clients in disputes involving employment issues, stock or asset transfer contracts, partnership agreements, limited partnership control issues, professional services contracts, franchise contracts, utility fuel contracts, and pipeline agreements. Jim has have defended clients involved in civil RICO, bank fraud and other fraud cases. He also has represented clients in product liability cases, including mass tort cases, ranging from petrochemicals to heavy equipment.
Jim retired as an equity partner from a large international law firm where he had worked for 31 years in its offices in Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles (where he was the partner-in-charge).
